Back in June, Danielle, Scott and I were ready to walk the streets of historic St. Augustine, Fla., and capture moments for their engagement session. On that day however, it began raining in the late afternoon and didn’t let up until early evening.
We opted for dinner and drinks instead—and what turned out to be an informal, yet spirited client consultation. I had met Scott way back in the day in Gainesville, Fla., where we hung out with the same circle of mutual friends, then reconnected again in Tampa a few years later.
I probably hadn’t seen him in 10 years when he reached out to me earlier this year and told me he was getting married and he wanted to book me for his wedding. And I am so glad he did. Not only was it awesome to see my old friend again and catch up with him, I finally got to meet Danielle, whose warmth and sweetness struck me immediately.
Although we took a raincheck on their shoot in June, we spent those few hours chatting about life, how they met and their instant connection (Scott: “We’re both from Ohio, so that was the first thing in common”) and their interests (season ticket holders to MLS Orlando City SC games, so that stood out to me considering I’m a big soccer fan).
Then in early July, we finally had a window for their engagement session. Although it was humid and the August heat was brutal, the skies were clear and the natural light was breathtaking. We roamed the streets of St. Augustine and captured intimate moments in crowds, alleyways and on the main thoroughfare of St. George Street. It was an incredible, inspiring shoot. And this beautiful couple, who never had professional photos taken before, did a fantastic job of simply focusing on each other and being in the moment with each other.
